Al-Shabaab foreign fighter killed in Middle Shabelle

WAAGACUSUB:- The Somali military said on Friday it killed an Al-Shabaab fighter in battle with the militant group this week in Middle Shabelle region.
The militant was killed in a security operation conducted by Somali forces following several attacks carried out by the militants in areas surrounding Jowhar and Bal'ad towns.
Gen Mohamud Mohamed Moallim "Koronto," of the 27th Inventory Division commander who spoke to VOA Somali service said the foreign fighter who is thought to be of Comoros nationality was killed by Somali forces
The militant was killed in a security operation conducted by Somali forces following several attacks carried out by the militants in areas surrounding Jowhar and Bal'ad towns.

Despite the fighter being a national of Comoros, the commander did not say further details about the militant.
He pointed out that the army is planning to carry out more operations aimed at flushing out militants from Hirshabelle regions.
Somali military and African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) had recently stepped up the fight against Al-Shabaab since Mogadishu truck bombing in October last year which claimed lives of over 500 people.
No group claimed responsibility the attack thought Alshabaab carried out attacks previously.
Al-Shabaab which once controlled a large swath of South and central Somalia is using hit and run tactics since the group lost the control of Somalia's capital Mogadishu to Somali Army backed by continental troops.
This week, Alshabaab attacked two Somali military bases in Bal'ad and Jowhar thought the government said they were repelled.
