US government to help Somali Government to
dislodge Islamists out of the capital
The United States is aiding the Somali Government,
which is in its final preparation of a major offensive
to lastly retake the control over country's capital
and restore order and law to a country that has been
in a complete chaos nearly for twenty years.
The new Somali military commander, General Mohamed
Ghelle Kahiye said that he recently shared vital schemes
about the coming military operations with American advisers.
"It is a good step that Americans are helping us
and we are ready to take the advantage of this remarkable
chance," said General Kahiye, a veteran senior
Somali military officer.
the U.S Government is a part of a counterterrorism
strategy to deny a haven to Al-Qaeda, which has found
sanctuary for years in Somalia's chaos and has helped
turn it into a magnet for terrorists from around the
world as US report indicates
The US administration is gradually more worried about
the link between Somalia and Yemen, a growing extremist
hot spot, with fighters going back and forth across
the Red Sea
However, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for
Africa, Johnnie Carson, said: "This is not an American
offensive. This is a Somali government attack on armed
groups in an effort to uproot the government’s Islamic
foes out of the city and establish the security through
the country."
Independent reports say most of the American military
assistance to the Somali government is focused on Somali
military trainings and is always channeled through African
Union peacekeepers. Now the matter looks different rather
than helping. it is likely that US will be involved
in the awaited Somali transitional government invasion
According to the report, an American official in Washington,
however, has predicted that American covert forces would
get involved if the offensive to dislodge Al-Qaeda-linked
terrorists begins.
Over the past few months, American advice-givers have
had handful assistance in the training of the Somali
forces to be deployed to the country as part of a continuing
program to build the capacity of the Somali military.
