A Spanish vessel falls in the hands of Somali
sea bandits
in spite of international navy forces from Nato, EU,
Russia, China and key countries those have a huge military
presence in the waters off the coast of Somalia for
participation in an anti-piracy mission in an effort
to fight Somali sea gangs who are greatly prospering
from the hijacks on the ships sailing back and forward
in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean. Recently there
have been failures of piracy attacks while dozens were
seized in the sea in their search of ships susceptible
to attacks but now Somali pirates have snatched a Kenyan-flagged
fishing boat with 16 crew which may be used as a mother
ship to launch more attacks in the Indian Ocean
Andrew Mwangura, the head of the East African Seafarers
Assistance Programme stated that the Spanish ship, MV
Sakoba sailing under Kenyan flag had a Spanish captain
and 15 other crew members from Kenya , Poland , Senegal
, Cape Verde and Namibia .
East African marine report says the vessel was taken
as hostage in waters off the Kenyan and Seychellois
coasts last week.
The European Union's Atalanta anti-piracy naval mission
confirmed in a statement that the ship was in the hands
of pirates Tuesday and heading towards the Somali pirate
lair of Harardhere. EU Navfor said in statement that
The Kenyan flagged fishing vessel Sakoba was hijacked
400 nautical miles east of Darus Salam.
