Alliance
for Re-Liberation of Somalia

(A.R.S.) PRESS RELEASE

After extensive consultations with the Somali people, supporters throughout the world and the Armed Resistance on the ground, we the Alliance for Re-Liberation of Somalia (ARS), wish to state the following:

Somalia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence have been forcibly violating in utter disregard of international norms.

The Somali people are enduring foreign aggression, occupation, aerial bombardment, as well as heinous crimes. These evil acts designed by some forces to subjugate and force the Somali people into submission. But these forces have miserably failed in their unholy mission. The Somali people have-through the heroic resistance, succeeded in foiling the strategic objectives of these forces. The Somali Resistance is winning battle after battle and continues to gain strength and momentum by the day.

Failing to subjugate the Somali people, the forces of aggression are calling now for negotiations with the so-called TFG at a time when the Ethiopian occupation forces are stepping up their crimes against the Somali people. At the same time, the so-called TFG continues its shameless complicity in the commitment of the crimes against our people.

Some talks started in Nairobi, Kenya, on March 2008, culminating in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between some members of ARS and UNPOS in Nairobi, Kenya. The MOU has secretly been negotiated without due process of ARS Charter, and illegally signed.

This MOU illegally committed the ARS to hold indirect/direct talks through UNPOS with the so-called TFG on 10th of May 2008 in Djibouti. These face one indirect talks are currently underway in Djibouti.

The same applies to those who are currently conducting indirect talks with the so-called TFG.

Those who claim to represent the ARS in these indirect talks have no authority to do so from the Central Committee of the ARS. These people have no mandate to negotiate on behalf of the Alliance or commit us to any obligation.

According the provisions of our charter, any major policy decisions must first be proposed by the Executive Committee, endorsed by the Standing Committee and finally be approved by the Central Committee.

By disregarding the Charter, as well as, the competent democratic decision making organs and its  leaders of our Alliance, those who claim to represent the ARS illegally in the current Indirect Talks in Djibouti have willfully violated the main principles of our Charter, the ARS Political Program as well as the internal Rules and Regulations of the ARS.

Thus, whatever they sign such people claiming to represent ARS anywhere and in the future are illegal and not binding on the ARS.

The ARS will not be party to the failed experiences of the past 17 years of 15 failed reconciliation conferences. These false starts not only failed to resolve this conflict but also further complicated the situation.

We reaffirm our position not to negotiate with TFG until the immediate, full and unconditional withdrawal of the Ethiopian occupation forces from Somalia is realized.

The Alliance maintains its position, and concern on foreign peacekeepers without knowing their clear mandate and will not accept any peacekeepers on Somali soil without the express consent of the whole Somali people.

The Somali people will continue to intensify the resistance against the Ethiopian Regime occupation, which is getting weaker by the days. The ARS, it has promised to the Somali people, will remain the vanguard of the Somali people’s struggle to end Ethiopian occupation and reconstitute the Somali state.

We reaffirm our readiness to talk with International Community in order to reach a genuine and final peace in Somalia.

We reaffirm our readiness to engage the international community and call upon them to condemn the illegal occupation of our country by Ethiopia. We reiterate our calls for the condemnation of the heinous war crimes committed by Ethiopia against our people and urge the international community to investigate these war crimes with the view of bringing the perpetrators to justice.

We, further strongly urge the international community to provide urgent and adequate humanitarian assistance to the millions of Somalis displaced by the occupation of Ethiopian TPLF Regime force more than a year and half.

The ARS reiterates its principal position and demands:

¨The full, immediate, and unconditional withdrawal of Ethiopian Troops from Somali soil;

¨That no foreign troops be deployed in Somalia without the consent of the Somali people;

¨ That the perpetrators of war crimes be brought to justice;

¨That the Ethiopian Regime pays war reparations;

¨In addition, that the International Community provides urgent, and immediate adequate assistance to the displaced and needy people of Somalia, victims of the Ethiopian occupation and aggression.
