Somali spy agency criticised for accusing foreign country over deadly attack
Waagacusub.com - Somalia's National Intelligence and Security Agency has been criticised over a statement in which it accused a foreign country of being behind the deadly Saturday bomb attack in Mogadishu which killed almost 90 people.
Ahmed Maalim Fiqi, a member of the federal parliament and a former NISA official, accused the spy agency of trying to cover up for its failures and asked it to name the other intelligence agencies it was cooperating with in the ongoing investigations into the matter.
Fiqi questioned why the intelligence gathered so fast to accuse a foreign country of involvement in the attack was not used to prevent the attack in the first place.
Opposition Wadajir Party leader Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame, also accused the security agency of diverting blame from Al-Shabaab.
"For NISA to claim that a foreign country was behind the Ex-Control Afgoye attack, in which Al-Shabab terrorists massacred 100 people, does not only mislead the public and cover up the agency’s failure, but it also diverts blame from the terrorists. This is a clear cooperation with Al-Shabaab,” Warsame tweeted.
