Waagacusub.com - The Somali moderate Islamist group Ahlu Sunnah Wal Jama'ah has rejected the ongoing elections in Galmudug state capital, Dusamareb, which have entered their final phase of the election of the state president.
In a statement, Ahlu Sunnah accused the Federal Government of Somalia, which backs the electoral process in Dusamareb, of handpicking 69 of the 89 members of the state parliament instead of local traditional elders doing the selection process.

The Sufi group had been allocated 20 seats in the state parliament in a previous deal with the federal government.

The Galmudug state elections has been marred by disputes, with the current president of the state, Ahmed Duale Haaf, holding a rival electoral process in the central city of Galkayo in which another state parliament was announced on Sunday.

Haaf, like Ahlu Sunnah, had earlier rejected the electoral process led by the federal government, accusing the latter of installing a puppet regional parliament.

Ahlu Sunnah’s move would further deepen the political crisis in the state.
