Waagacusub.com - #Somali government media reporting that national forces confronted and repelled an attempted al-Shabaab attack on Masagaway town in the central Galmudug State, on Tuesday. According to the report Govt forces reported received a tip about an imminent al-Shabaab attack and were prepared for it. An unspecified number of militants have been killed according to state media.

Meanwhile, al-Shabaab media is giving a different account of what has happened. The group claims that its militants attacked the base manned by troops trained in Eritrea. Al-Shabaab militants further claimed ambushing reinforcements sent from El-Dheer town, killing a total of 73 soldiers. Casualty figures by Al-Shabaab have not yet been independently verified.

Government forces and local fighters seized Masagaway from al-Shabaab in January this year. In April the militants attacked the town killing three elders who have been involved in the local anti-Al-Shabaab mobilisations.
