NVJ Sends Another Letter to Minister Veldkamp
The Dutch Association of Journalists (NVJ) has forwarded a letter from the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) to Minister Veldkamp. The letter calls on the European Union to take action to end the inhumane situation in Gaza.
On June 11, the NVJ had already submitted a letter—together with 45 Dutch media outlets—urging the minister to pay urgent attention to the harsh conditions under which journalists in Gaza are forced to work and to take action on behalf of the Dutch government.
"Since that letter was sent, the situation in Gaza has worsened. There is now an acute famine, preventing even local journalists from carrying out the most basic reporting. The situation is so severe that immediate intervention is necessary," stated the NVJ in its cover letter.

For this reason, the NVJ is sending another letter, this time attaching the EFJ’s call for action. That call includes several urgent demands:
- Evacuating individuals in immediate danger to safety
- Allowing foreign journalists access to Gaza
- Protecting local journalists
- Launching an international investigation into the use of starvation as a weapon of war
The letter also calls for the suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement until further notice.
