Ethnic tensions have boiled over since Thursday's rerun presidential poll, boycotted by the opposition

With ethnic tensions boiling over, Kenya’s electoral authorities are set to announce on Sunday what should happen in areas which boycotted the country’s rerun presidential election.

Fears of unrest have prevented further attempts at voting.

Tribal divisions have ignited, raising concerns that Kenya could see the type of violence that left 1,200 people dead after a disputed election a decade ago.

Around 50 people have been killed, mostly by security forces, since this year’s initial presidential poll in August, which was annulled over procedural irregularities.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga pulled out of Thursday’s rerun, saying that it too would be flawed and calling for a boycott.

Millions stayed away, paving the way, no doubt, for a crushing victory by incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta and fears of ever-increasing turmoil.
