OPP detachment in Cambridge destroyed by flames
A fire has destroyed the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment in Cambridge.
Detachment commander John Mraud was inside the building at 500 Beaverdale Road, when he noticed smoke billowing from the roof.
"I was just looking out my detachment window and I noticed some smoke so I walked outside to see where it was coming from and I saw flames and darker smoke coming from the back corner of the roof,” Mraud explained in an online interview with the OPP’s Kerry Schmidt.
"I went back inside the detachment, a 911 call was made to fire, and we evacuated the entire Mraud said no one was hurt, but the detachment, which opened in 1986 has been razed. "The important thing right now is everyone is safe,” he added.
Mraud stressed that the unfortunate fire won’t affect services.
Cambridge OPP will be temporarily based out of the Milton detachment at 203 Steeles East until a new home is found.
"Services are not going to change we will keep doing our job to the best of our ability,” he said.
There’s no word yet on the cause of the fire.
